Why do I seem to sin more on the days when I pray more earnestly?

Questions & Answers May 27, 2016

Q: I’ve found that on the day that I pray earnestly, that’s the day that I sin more than on other days. Is Jesus hearing my prayers? And how many times must I confess the same sin? I’m tired of this sin; it’s my heart’s cry that I may conquer. — Gijomwa

A: Gijomwa, We know that Jesus longs to give us victory of sin in our lives (see Jude 1:24), and the Bible gives us the assurance that Jesus hears our prayers. In 1 John 5:14, 15 we read: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us: And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

Getting rid of sin in our lives can be a struggle, and we will not have peace until we make a full and complete surrender of our will to God. In the beautiful book, Steps to Christ, we read:

“Repentance includes sorrow for sin and a turning away from it. We shall not renounce sin unless we see its sinfulness; until we turn away from it in heart, there will be no real change in the life” (p. 23).

This small yet powerful book has helped millions around the world to have a closer walk with Jesus and get rid of sins that weigh them down. I encourage you to read Steps to Christ, which you can download here: https://bit.ly/StepsToChristDownload.
